Valkeala

Valkeala is a former municipality in south-eastern Finland, incorporated since 2009 into the town of Kouvola, within the Kymenlaakso region. The area is characterised by a typically Finnish landscape of extensive coniferous forests and numerous lakes, including Vuohijärvi, which borders the area and provides good conditions for fishing and boating. The nearby Repovesi National Park, known for its rock formations, hiking trails and scenic lake views, is a notable natural asset for outdoor enthusiasts. The locality is also home to Utti Airfield, used mainly for military and light aviation purposes. The climate is continental Nordic, with long, snowy winters well suited to cross-country skiing and snowmobiling, and mild summers that favour lake-based activities. The region remains sparsely populated, with scattered hamlets and wooded areas creating a quiet, rural setting away from urban bustle, while still being easily accessible from Kouvola and the main road linking Helsinki to eastern Finland.
