Asikkala

Asikkala is a municipality in the Päijänne Tavastia region of Finland, set along the shores of Lake Päijänne, the country's deepest and one of its largest lakes. The Vääksy Canal, linking Lake Vesijärvi to Lake Päijänne, forms the heart of the area, with its locks and marina drawing boat traffic in summer alongside a handful of canal-side cafés and shops. The Pulkkilanharju ridge, a long wooded esker crossed by a scenic road between two stretches of water, is a notable natural landmark in the region, popular for walking and cycling. Vesivehmaa Airfield, nationally recognised for skydiving and gliding, is also located within the municipality. Päijänne National Park, reachable by boat, offers excursions to unspoilt islands. The surrounding landscape is typical of inland Finland—quiet, forested and dotted with lakes—well suited to fishing, canoeing and outdoor pursuits, with cold, snowy winters and mild, bright summers.
