Ristiina

Ristiina is a small municipality in the Etelä-Savo region of Finland, situated on the shores of Lake Saimaa, the country's largest lake. The area is known for the Astuvansalmi rock paintings, one of Scandinavia's most significant sites of prehistoric rock art, found on cliffs overlooking the lake. Ristiina is also recognised for its strawberry production, a long-standing local tradition celebrated each summer with a dedicated festival. The surrounding landscape, typical of Finland's lake district, offers plenty of outdoor pursuits such as boating, fishing, hiking and swimming during the summer months. In winter, the region is well suited to cross-country skiing and snowmobiling, thanks to a continental climate with long, snowy winters and short but bright summers. Located close to the town of Mikkeli, Ristiina serves as a peaceful base from which to explore the natural and cultural heritage of south-eastern Finland, amid forests, islands and the expansive waterways that define this part of the country.
