Kerimäki

Kerimäki is a small municipality in the South Savo region of eastern Finland, best known for its wooden church, said to be the largest wooden church in the world according to local tradition. Built in the 19th century, this landmark draws visitors interested in Nordic religious architecture and remains the area's principal attraction. The municipality lies along Lake Puruvesi, one of Finland's clearest lakes, providing an ideal setting for swimming, fishing and other water activities in summer, as well as cross-country skiing and ice fishing in winter. The surrounding countryside, typical of the Savonia region, is characterised by extensive forests, lakeside scenery and a sparse population, offering a peaceful, unhurried atmosphere. Kerimäki also serves as a convenient base for exploring Finland's Lakeland region and the nearby town of Savonlinna, renowned for its medieval castle. The area experiences a humid continental climate, with long, snowy winters and short, bright summers typical of Finland's interior.
