Polvijärvi

Polvijärvi is a small municipality in the North Karelia region (Pohjois-Karjala) of eastern Finland, not far from the city of Joensuu. Like much of this part of the country, the area is characterised by dense forests, numerous lakes and sparsely populated countryside, making it a peaceful, nature-focused destination. The local economy has traditionally relied on forestry and agriculture, and everyday life still reflects Finland's strong sauna culture. The region's continental climate brings long, cold winters well suited to cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoe walks, while the mild, bright summers are ideal for fishing, lake swimming and forest hikes. Holiday accommodation in the area typically consists of timber cottages set beside the water, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the surrounding calm and natural surroundings.
