Kesälahti

Kesälahti is a locality in south-eastern Finland, incorporated into the municipality of Kitee since 2021, within the South Karelia region. It sits on the shores of Lake Puruvesi, known as one of Finland's clearest and purest lakes, making it popular for swimming, fishing and water sports during the summer months. The surrounding landscape is characterised by extensive boreal forests and lake scenery typical of Finland's so-called Lakeland region, with a low population density that lends itself to peace and quiet. Typical countryside pursuits are on offer here, including hiking, berry and mushroom picking, ice fishing in winter, and traditional sauna experiences, often linked to the many holiday cottages (mökki) found in the area. The continental climate brings mild, bright summers with long daylight hours, and cold, snowy winters well suited to outdoor pursuits such as cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Kesälahti therefore serves as a tranquil base from which to explore the Finnish countryside, well away from urban bustle, with its lakeside setting being its most distinctive natural feature.
