Petite Ile

Petite Ile is a town in southern Réunion, located along the volcanic coastline known as the Sud Sauvage, between Saint-Joseph and Saint-Pierre. The rugged shoreline, characterised by black volcanic cliffs and often rough seas, contrasts with the lush green hills inland. The coastal hamlet of Manapany-les-Bains, part of the town, is known for its natural rock pools, sheltered from the waves and popular for family swimming. Further inland, the Piton Grand Tampon viewpoint offers panoramic views over the Grand Bassin cirque, home to one of the island's tallest waterfalls, reachable only on foot. The area is also known for lychee growing, celebrated each year during harvest season with a local festival dedicated to the fruit. The warm, humid tropical climate, with a cooler spell from May to November, supports both agriculture and nature-based tourism. Petite Ile makes a quiet base for exploring the Sud Sauvage region, offering hiking trails, coastal paths and a glimpse into Réunion's rural life, away from the island's busier tourist hubs.
