Signes

Signes is a Provençal village in the Var department, nestled at the foot of the Sainte-Baume massif, around twenty kilometres north of Toulon. Its old centre retains a distinctly Provençal character, with narrow lanes, stone houses and a fountain on the main square. The village is surrounded by extensive woodland, ideal for walking and hiking, as well as the Destel gorges, popular with climbers and nature lovers. The area enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, making outdoor activities possible for much of the year. Signes retains a local agricultural tradition, particularly around olive oil and honey production, and a traditional market offers a chance to sample regional produce. The commune provides a quiet, rural setting while remaining within easy reach of coastal towns in the Var such as Toulon and La Ciotat, making it a convenient base for exploring both the Provençal hinterland and the Mediterranean coastline.
