Eggum

Eggum is a small fishing hamlet on the north-western coast of Vestvågøy island, in Norway's Lofoten archipelago. The settlement is known for its rugged natural setting, facing the open Norwegian Sea, with a sandy beach and wave-battered rock formations. It forms part of the Lofoten National Tourist Route, featuring a rest stop and minimalist sanitary facilities built into the rocky landscape. The remains of a former German radar station from the Second World War reflect the area's strategic past. Eggum is also a popular starting point for coastal walks, including the route to the nearby bay of Unstad, well known among surfers. The area draws visitors interested in wild scenery, birdwatching and photography, particularly during the midnight sun in summer or the northern lights in winter. The hamlet remains largely undeveloped, with few shops or facilities, making it well suited to travellers seeking peace and isolation away from the busier tourist spots elsewhere in Lofoten.
