Augustenborg

Augustenborg is a small town in southern Denmark, located on the island of Als in the Sønderjylland (Southern Jutland) region, on the shore of the Augustenborg Fjord. The town is best known for Augustenborg Slot, a baroque palace built in the 18th century for the ducal Augustenborg family, now used for institutional purposes but with grounds and surroundings still visible to visitors. The town has a quiet centre with a few shops, a church, and a small marina overlooking the fjord, popular for sailing and fishing. The surrounding area offers landscapes typical of Southern Jutland, with rolling countryside, woodland, and coastline well suited to walking and cycling, as the island of Als is served by a network of cycle paths linking its coastal towns. Nearby Sønderborg, just a short distance away, provides a wider range of shops, beaches, and historical sites connected to the region's Schleswig heritage. The climate is temperate and maritime, with mild summers and cool winters typical of the Danish coast.
