Gråsten

Gråsten is a small town in southern Jutland (Sønderjylland), Denmark, located near the Flensburg Fjord and close to the German border. It is best known for Gråsten Palace (Gråsten Slot), a summer residence of the Danish royal family, whose gardens and grounds are open to the public during the summer months. The surrounding area is also noted for a local apple variety, the “Gråstenæbler”, cultivated in nearby orchards since the 19th century. The landscape is characterised by the gently rolling countryside typical of southern Jutland, with woodland, farmland and direct access to the coast, making it well suited to walking and sailing. The proximity of Sønderborg and the island of Als allows visitors to combine a peaceful stay in Gråsten with excursions to regional sites connected to Danish-German history. The climate is temperate and maritime, with mild summers and cool winters typical of southern Denmark.
