Rødby

Rødby is a small town on the southern coast of the island of Lolland, in the South Denmark region. Founded in the Middle Ages, it retains remnants of its old town ramparts, a reminder of its former status as a fortified town, now forming a green walkway around the historic centre. Nearby lies Rødbyhavn, the port from which ferries sail to Germany (Puttgarden), an important transport link in the region, further reinforced by the Fehmarnbelt tunnel project currently under construction. The surrounding landscape is typical of Lolland: flat and agricultural, dotted with farmland and small villages. The southern coastline offers quiet beaches and natural areas popular for walking and birdwatching, particularly around Rødby Fjord. The town itself remains modest in size, with a handful of shops, cafés and a medieval church. The climate is temperate, with mild summers and cool winters typical of the Danish coast. Rødby serves as a simple, practical base for exploring southern Lolland, combining local heritage, coastal nature and transport links towards continental Europe.
