Auron

Auron is a mountain resort in the Alpes-Maritimes department, within the commune of Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée, on the edge of the Mercantour National Park. Sitting at an altitude of roughly 1,600 to 2,100 metres, it generally enjoys reliable snow cover in winter, making it a popular destination for downhill and cross-country skiing, with a ski area linked to neighbouring resorts in the Tinée valley. The Saint-Erige chapel, noted for its ancient frescoes, is a local point of historical interest. In summer, Auron serves as a starting point for hiking and mountain biking, thanks to its unspoilt alpine setting and proximity to the Mercantour, known for its wildlife and high-mountain scenery.
