Montriond

Montriond is a village in the Haute-Savoie region of France, sitting at around 1,000 metres above sea level in the Aulps valley, right next to Morzine. The village stretches down to Lake Montriond, a turquoise stretch of water framed by surrounding peaks, popular for swimming, fishing and lakeside walks in summer. A few kilometres away, the Ay valley and its waterfall make for a well-known hiking destination, reachable on foot or by shuttle during the summer season. In winter, Montriond forms part of the Portes du Soleil ski area, one of the largest in Europe, giving direct access to interlinked pistes across several French and Swiss resorts, including Avoriaz, Châtel and Champéry. The village's own smaller ski area caters well to beginners and families. The centre retains a distinctly alpine character, with traditional wood-and-stone chalets typical of Savoyard architecture. The wider area is also a good base for outdoor pursuits such as mountain biking, climbing and paragliding. Montriond has an alpine climate, with snowy winters and mild summers, making it suitable for year-round stays.
