El Pas de la Casa

El Pas de la Casa is a resort town straddling the border between Andorra and France, in the Encamp valley, at the foot of the Port d'Envalira pass, one of the highest road passes in Europe. Perched at over 2,000 metres, this mountain village is renowned for the Grandvalira ski area, one of the largest in the Pyrenees, offering varied slopes, snowparks and off-piste activities for all levels. The town is also known for its numerous duty-free shops, a legacy of its border location, selling winter sports equipment, electronics and various goods at competitive prices. The atmosphere is lively, with a fairly developed nightlife during the winter season, alongside bars and restaurants serving Catalan and Pyrenean cuisine. In summer, the resort becomes a starting point for mountain walking, set within an unspoilt natural landscape of peaks and high-altitude lakes. The mountain climate, with harsh, snowy winters, strongly shapes the town's tourist identity, geared mainly towards winter sports and tax-free shopping.
