Cala en Blanes

Cala en Blanes is a small seaside resort on the west coast of Menorca, just a few kilometres from Ciutadella, the island's former capital. The cove itself, nestled between low cliffs, offers sheltered turquoise waters ideal for swimming, and makes a convenient base for exploring the many other coves dotted along this rugged coastline. Ciutadella's old town is well worth a visit for its cobbled streets, cathedral and lively harbour; it's also worth stopping at Café Es Pou, well regarded for its warm welcome and the quality of its food. A little further afield, the Lithica quarry, a former stone quarry transformed into unusual gardens, makes for a memorable excursion. The beaches along the island's southern coast, with their clear waters and unspoilt scenery, round off a stay focused on nature and relaxation. Menorca, designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, stands out for its quieter character compared with its Balearic neighbours, boasting largely unspoilt natural surroundings and countless coves easily reached on foot or by car from Cala en Blanes.
