La Chapelle-d'Abondance

La Chapelle-d'Abondance is a village in Haute-Savoie, located in the Abondance Valley near Châtel and close to the Swiss border. It forms part of the Portes du Soleil ski area, linked to the Torgon sector in Switzerland, giving access to an extensive network of pistes in winter. Traditional Savoyard architecture, with timber chalets and typical farmhouses, defines the village, as does the Saint-Maurice church, whose baroque interior reflects the region's religious style. The valley is known for producing Abondance cheese, a local AOC product tied to alpine farming. In summer, the village serves as a starting point for hiking, with access to mountain pastures and trails in the Chablais massif. Its proximity to Lake Geneva and neighbouring resorts such as Châtel makes it a convenient base for exploring the Savoy Chablais area.
