Menaggio

Menaggio is a town in the province of Como, in Lombardy, set on the western shore of Lake Como at the point where the lake widens opposite Bellagio and Varenna. Its harbour and lakeside promenade (lungolago) form the heart of the town, lined with colourful houses and terraces overlooking the water and surrounding mountains. The historic centre retains the network of narrow lanes typical of Lombard lakeside towns. Menaggio serves as a convenient base for exploring the lake, thanks to regular ferry connections to Bellagio, Varenna and Como. The town is also home to one of Italy's oldest golf clubs, the Golf Club Menaggio e Cadenabbia, founded in the early twentieth century. Nearby, the Valle Menaggio and the Lake Piano nature reserve offer walking routes and opportunities for birdwatching, while several mountain paths lead up to the ridges overlooking the lake. Its location close to the Swiss border and Lugano also makes it a good starting point for cross-border day trips. The lake's tempering effect on the climate supports an active tourism season from spring through autumn.
