Tremezzina

Tremezzina is a municipality in the province of Como, Lombardy, formed in 2014 through the merger of Tremezzo, Lenno, Mezzegra and Ossuccio, on the western shore of Lake Como. It is best known for Villa Carlotta, celebrated for its botanical gardens and neoclassical collections, and for Villa del Balbianello in Lenno, a promontory managed by the FAI heritage trust and frequently used as a film location. Nearby, Isola Comacina, the lake's only island, draws visitors for its historical past and archaeological remains. The area combines lakeside villages with terraced olive groves and hiking trails leading up to viewpoints overlooking the lake, with vistas stretching towards the Alps and neighbouring towns such as Bellagio and Menaggio. The mild climate, tempered by the lake, supports Mediterranean-style vegetation. Boat travel remains a popular way to explore the surrounding villages and enjoy the scenery. Tremezzina therefore makes an appealing base for discovering Lake Como, combining architectural heritage, nature and the relaxed lifestyle typical of the Lombard lakes.
