Iseo

Iseo is a small town in Lombardy, in the province of Brescia, set on the south-eastern shore of Lake Iseo (also known as Sebino), at the foot of the Pre-Alps. Its historic centre, arranged around Piazza Garibaldi, retains medieval lanes, the church of Sant'Andrea and the remains of the Oldofredi castle. The lakeside promenade gives direct access to jetties serving Monte Isola, the largest lake island in Europe, as well as other towns along the shore. The lake is well suited to boating, swimming and watersports, while the surrounding hills offer walking and cycling routes. Iseo lies close to Franciacorta, a wine region renowned for its traditional-method sparkling wines, which can be explored through cellar visits. Local cuisine features lake fish, particularly agone and tench, often served dried or grilled. The climate, moderated by the lake, allows for a tourist season stretching from spring through to autumn. The town makes a convenient base for exploring both Lake Iseo and the wine-growing countryside of the Brescia hinterland.
