Bardolino

Bardolino is a wine-producing town on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, in the province of Verona, Veneto. It is best known for Bardolino DOC, a light red wine, and for Chiaretto, a rosé typical of the area. The historic centre features two notable religious buildings: the Church of San Zeno, of Carolingian origin and among the oldest in the region, and the Romanesque Church of San Severo, decorated with medieval frescoes. The lakeside promenade, lined with olive trees and plane trees, leads to a small harbour and several pebble beaches, including Punta Cornicello. The lake's moderating effect on the climate supports olive cultivation, and the local oil often features in regional dishes. Bardolino makes a convenient base for exploring other towns around the lake, such as Garda, Torri del Benaco and Sirmione, thanks to regular ferry connections. Cycling routes along the shoreline and the surrounding vine-covered hills add to the appeal of this destination, which is busiest in spring and summer.
