Limone sul Garda

Limone sul Garda is a town in Lombardy (province of Brescia), set on the western shore of Lake Garda at the foot of mountains that shield it from cold winds, giving it a mild, almost Mediterranean microclimate. Long accessible only by boat, it was not connected by road until 1932, with the completion of the Gardesana Occidentale, which explains its well-preserved character. The village is known for its limonaie, historic terraced greenhouses where lemons have been grown since the 18th century and which remain a distinctive feature of the local landscape, some open to visitors. Limone also gained scientific recognition after a genetic mutation offering protection against cardiovascular disease (the ApoA-1 Milano protein) was identified in a local family. The old town, with its narrow lanes, colourful houses and small harbour, is pleasant for lakeside strolls. The town serves as a popular base for swimming, cycling along Lake Garda's cycle paths, hiking in the surrounding mountains, and ferry connections to other lakeside villages such as Malcesine and Riva del Garda.
