Tremosine

Tremosine sul Garda is a municipality in Lombardy, perched on a rocky plateau above the north-western shore of Lake Garda, in the province of Brescia. It is best known for the Strada della Forra, a winding road carved through a rocky gorge that links the plateau to the lake, and which featured in a scene from the James Bond film Quantum of Solace. The hamlet of Pieve, the historic heart of the municipality, offers sweeping views over the lake and surrounding mountains from its promontory. Tremosine's territory comprises around twenty small hamlets scattered among meadows, woodland and alpine pastures, where traditional farming continues, including the production of local cheeses. The area is well suited to walking and cycling, while the lake shores below offer sailing and windsurfing, thanks to the thermal winds typical of Lake Garda. The mild, lake-tempered climate supports olive trees and cypresses unusual at this altitude. Altogether, Tremosine is valued as a destination for its dramatic natural scenery and peaceful atmosphere, set apart from the more heavily touristed parts of the lake.
