Canet plage

Canet-Plage, a seaside resort in the Pyrénées-Orientales just a few kilometres from Perpignan, stretches along a wide sandy beach lined by a lively marina. The Oniria aquarium, set right on the seafront, is one of the area's main attractions, alongside the mini-golf course popular with families. The surrounding region also lends itself well to day trips: the fifteenth-century Salses fortress lies around thirty minutes away, while the Sigean African reserve offers the chance to see wildlife roaming in semi-liberty. Heading south, the cobbled streets of Collioure, the Paulilles cove with its former dynamite factory turned nature reserve, or even a short trip across the border to Spain's Costa Brava and Lloret de Mar round out the options, with activities such as canyoning and diving on offer. A night market regularly brings the seafront to life during the summer season. For dining, O Malassi restaurant in nearby Argelès, known for its sharing plates, and the 2 Place Med venue are among the addresses appreciated by visitors staying in the area.
