Ghisonaccia

Ghisonaccia is a town in the Fium'Orbu area, on Corsica's eastern plain in Haute-Corse. Set a short distance from the Tyrrhenian coast, it provides access to long sandy beaches such as Marina di Ghisonaccia, Vignale and Bravone, backed by pine woods and coastal lagoons like the Étang d'Urbino, which attract birdlife and support oyster farming. The surrounding plain, known for its clementine orchards and vineyards, reflects an agricultural tradition that developed strongly from the mid-20th century onwards. About fifteen kilometres to the north, the ancient site of Aléria and its archaeological museum trace the area's Greek, Etruscan and Roman past. Inland, the Fium'Orbu valley leads towards the mountain village of Ghisoni and the Col de Sorba, a pass connecting the coast with central Corsica, offering hiking routes and mid-mountain scenery that contrast with the shoreline. The Mediterranean climate, with warm summers and mild winters, supports seaside tourism in summer while also allowing year-round trips into the nearby mountains.
