Stintino

Stintino is a small fishing village on the north-western tip of Sardinia, in the province of Sassari. Founded in the 19th century by families relocated from the nearby island of Asinara, it has retained a picturesque harbour with colourful fishing boats and narrow streets lined with seafood restaurants. The village is best known for La Pelosa beach, celebrated for its fine white sand and shallow turquoise waters, framed by an Aragonese tower and views across to Asinara Island, now a national park reachable by boat from the harbour. The surrounding coastline offers several quieter coves and beaches, ideal for snorkelling and coastal walks. Local cuisine centres on seafood, particularly bottarga and fresh shellfish, alongside traditional Sardinian specialities such as pane carasau flatbread. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, makes the area well suited to watersports including sailing, kayaking and windsurfing. Stintino remains a popular choice for a relaxed seaside holiday, combining unspoilt nature with a strong maritime heritage.
