Rignac

Rignac is a village in the Nord Aveyron area of Occitania, set on the Causse Comtal plateau between Rodez and Figeac. As the main town of a rural district devoted to cattle farming, particularly the Aubrac breed, Rignac retains a strong agricultural character, evident in its traditional markets and livestock fairs. The village makes a convenient base for exploring several nearby settlements renowned for their architectural heritage, some officially listed among the most beautiful villages in France, such as Belcastel, with its medieval castle overlooking the Aveyron river, or Najac, perched dramatically on a rocky spur. The surrounding countryside, typical of the Causse Comtal, features limestone plateaux, deep valleys and small stone hamlets. The area is well suited to walking and to discovering the Romanesque and medieval heritage found throughout the department. The climate is semi-continental with southern influences, bringing warm summers and cooler winters typical of inland Aveyron.
