Olden

Olden is a small Norwegian village in the Vestland region, situated at the head of the Innvikfjorden, within the Nordfjord area. Framed by mountains and bordered by the turquoise waters of Lake Oldevatnet, this scenic setting owes much of its reputation to its proximity to the Briksdalsbreen glacier, an arm of the larger Jostedalsbreen glacier, reachable within around thirty minutes by road. The village regularly welcomes cruise ships during the summer season, making it a popular stop for those wishing to experience Norway's spectacular fjord landscapes. The surrounding area offers plenty of opportunities for hiking, whether towards the glacier or around the lake, as well as water-based activities such as kayaking on the fjord's calm waters. The natural surroundings, with their waterfalls, steep valleys and peaks capped with snow for much of the year, form the destination's main appeal. Olden remains a convenient base for exploring the Nordfjord and Stryn regions, while retaining the authentic feel of a rural Norwegian village, well away from the bustle of larger tourist centres.
