Bortelid

Bortelid is a mountain resort located in the municipality of Sirdal, in the Agder region of southern Norway, at around 900 metres above sea level. The plateau borders the Setesdal Vesthei-Ryfylkeheiane nature reserve and is known for its unspoilt natural surroundings of moorland, lakes and rounded summits typical of Scandinavian highlands. The resort is mainly visited in winter for alpine skiing, with several lifts and family-friendly slopes, as well as cross-country skiing along a network of groomed trails crossing the plateau. In summer, the area serves as a starting point for hiking, freshwater fishing and countryside walks, with the mountain climate remaining cool year-round. Accommodation mainly consists of traditional timber cabins (hytter) scattered around the resort, offering a peaceful and secluded setting. Bortelid remains a modest yet genuine destination, popular among Norwegians for nature-focused breaks centred on skiing and tranquillity, away from the busier atmosphere of larger alpine resorts.
