Hřensko

Hřensko is a small village tucked away in the far north of Bohemia, right on the German border, at the heart of the Bohemian Switzerland National Park (České Švýcarsko). The area is renowned for its sandstone rock formations shaped by erosion, deep gorges and dense forests crossed by the Kamenice River. The region's main attraction is Pravčická brána, the largest natural sandstone arch in Europe, reachable via marked hiking trails from the village. The Edmund Gorge (Edmundova soutěska) and Wild Gorge (Divoká soutěska) offer traditional rowing boat trips along dramatic rock walls, an activity that has defined the area for over a century. Hřensko makes an ideal base for exploring this karst landscape, unique in Central Europe, on foot or by bike, as well as the neighbouring Saxon Switzerland just across the German border. The village itself remains modest in size, with accommodation geared towards walkers and nature lovers, set within a quiet, wooded environment well suited to outdoor holidays.
