Balatonfured/Tihany

Balatonfüred and Tihany lie on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, the largest lake in Central Europe, in a region known for its vineyards and mild climate favourable to tourism. Balatonfüred is a historic spa town, recognised since the 18th century for its Kossuth spring, whose carbon-dioxide-rich waters have long been used for cardiovascular treatments. The tree-lined Tagore Promenade, planted with trees dedicated by notable visitors, runs along the shoreline and is home to cafés, boat piers and lake views. Tihany, a volcanic peninsula connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus, houses the Benedictine abbey founded in the 11th century, whose crypt contains the tomb of King András I. The village is also known for its lavender fields, its inner lake (Belső-tó) surrounded by walking trails, and its traditional thatched-roof houses typical of Hungarian folk architecture. The area is well suited to swimming, sailing, wine tasting and lakeside walks, combining preserved natural landscapes with a long-standing architectural heritage.
