Szántód

Szántód is a village in Somogy County, on the southern shore of Lake Balaton, directly opposite the Tihany peninsula. It is best known for its ferry port, one of the oldest and busiest on the lake, which has long provided a crossing between the two shores and remains a key tourist point during the summer season. Nearby, the historic Szántódpuszta estate, a former agricultural complex with barns, stables and outbuildings, has been converted into a cultural site where visitors can explore traditional rural architecture and watch equestrian displays. The village itself is modest in size, with direct access to the shores of Lake Balaton, ideal for swimming, sailing and gentle walks. The region enjoys a temperate continental climate, with warm, sunny summers that attract families and nature lovers alike. Szántód therefore makes a practical base for exploring the southern shore of the lake while remaining close to Tihany, easily reached by a short boat crossing.
