Balatonfenyves

Balatonfenyves is a village on the southern shore of Lake Balaton, in Somogy County, Hungary. The locality is known for its fine sandy beaches and shallow waters, which make it particularly suitable for families with children. One of the distinctive features of Balatonfenyves is its narrow-gauge railway, which runs through the Nagyberek nature reserve, a wetland area rich in reeds and biodiversity, connecting the village to Csisztapuszta. This reserve provides a pleasant setting for walks and wildlife observation. As with most towns along Lake Balaton, Balatonfenyves offers water-based activities such as swimming, sailing and windsurfing, along with cycle paths running along the shoreline. Fishing is also popular among both locals and visitors. The region has a temperate continental climate, with warm, sunny summers that favour lakeside tourism from June to September. The village retains a quieter, more residential character than some of the busier resorts around the lake, making it a restful base for a stay by Lake Balaton.
