Schiltach

Schiltach is a small town in Baden-Württemberg, nestled in the Black Forest at the confluence of the Kinzig and Schiltach rivers, within the Rottweil district. It is known for its picturesque old town, featuring well-preserved half-timbered houses arranged around a sloping market square with a fountain at its centre. The Schüttesäge Museum, housed in a former sawmill, showcases the town's history of timber trade and traditional crafts. Schiltach serves as a popular starting point for walks through the surrounding wooded hills, typical of the Black Forest landscape, with trails connecting the town to nearby places such as Schramberg and Alpirsbach. The climate is temperate continental, with cool, often snowy winters and mild summers, well suited to outdoor pursuits. The town's proximity to the Black Forest Railway (Schwarzwaldbahn) makes it easily accessible from Offenburg or Villingen-Schwenningen.
