Donaueschingen

Donaueschingen lies in Baden-Württemberg, on the eastern edge of the Black Forest, at an altitude of around 680 metres. The town is best known for the Donauquelle, the symbolic source of the Danube, located in the grounds of the Fürstenberg princely palace, where the Brigach and Breg rivers merge to form the Danube. The palace (Fürstenbergisches Schloss) and its park form a central feature of the historic town centre. Donaueschingen is also home to the Fürstenberg brewery, one of Germany's largest private breweries, which remains closely tied to the town's identity. The town is further noted for the Donaueschinger Musiktage, a contemporary music festival founded in 1921 and regarded as one of the oldest of its kind in Europe. Its location on the fringes of the Black Forest makes it a convenient starting point for hiking and cycling, with easy access to surrounding forests, hills and valleys. The climate is temperate continental, with cooler winters influenced by the altitude and proximity to the forest massif. Altogether, the setting combines heritage, industry and nature typical of southern Baden-Württemberg.
