Schluchsee

Schluchsee is a town in Baden-Württemberg, in the Black Forest, named after the largest lake in the region, which was formed when a hydroelectric dam was built in the 1930s. This reservoir, surrounded by pine forests, is the focus of local tourism, with swimming, sailing, windsurfing, diving and fishing all popular during the summer months. A path circles the lake, offering opportunities for walking and cycling, with several access points in the lakeside hamlets such as Aha and Fischbach. Recognised as a Kneipp health resort, the town also draws visitors for its clean air and elevation of around 930 metres. In winter, the nearby Feldberg, the highest peak in the Black Forest, provides opportunities for downhill and cross-country skiing. Local cuisine features regional specialities such as Black Forest smoked ham, trout dishes and Black Forest cherry cake. Schluchsee therefore makes a well-regarded base for a stay combining nature, water sports and hiking in mid-mountain surroundings.
