Höchenschwand

Höchenschwand is a recognised climatic health resort in the southern Black Forest, in Baden-Württemberg, set on a plateau at around 1,000 metres above sea level often nicknamed the 'sun terrace of the Black Forest'. This elevated position gives it plentiful sunshine and clean air, making it well suited to Kneipp therapy and wellness stays, particularly through the Radon-Revital-Bad, a spa centre making use of the area's naturally radon-rich waters. The village serves as a popular base for walking, with a network of marked trails winding through fir forests and pastureland, offering views as far as the Alps on clear days. In winter, the plateau lends itself to cross-country skiing and snow walks, benefiting from more reliable snow cover than the surrounding valleys. Höchenschwand lies close to Sankt Blasien, known for its domed cathedral, and to Lake Schluchsee, one of the largest natural lakes in the Black Forest. Local cuisine follows Black Forest traditions, featuring smoked meats, Black Forest gateau and trout dishes. The resort suits family holidays and relaxing breaks away from city life.
