Lügde

Lügde is a small town in North Rhine-Westphalia, located in the district of Lippe, at the heart of the Weserbergland, a hilly region crossed by the River Weser. The town is known for its historic centre, which retains traditional half-timbered houses characteristic of the local architecture. Lügde is particularly noted for the Osterräderlauf, an ancient Easter tradition in which burning wheels are rolled down a hillside, a custom recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. The surrounding countryside offers plenty of scope for outdoor pursuits, with walking trails and cycle paths winding through the forests and hills of the Weserbergland. Nearby towns such as Bad Pyrmont, a well-known spa resort, and Hameln, famous for the legend of the Pied Piper, make for enjoyable day trips. The region experiences a temperate continental climate, with mild summers and cool winters, typical of central Germany. Lügde therefore serves as a peaceful base from which to explore the rural heritage and natural landscapes of this part of historic Lower Saxony, away from the bustle of city life.
