Swieradow Zdroj

Świeradów-Zdrój is a spa town in Lower Silesia, nestled in the Izera Mountains close to the Czech border. The town owes its reputation to its radioactive mineral springs, exploited since the 19th century and still used in local spa facilities to treat rheumatic, respiratory and circulatory conditions. Its graduation tower (wieża tężniowa), among the tallest in Europe, allows visitors to breathe salt-enriched air, a practice inspired by traditional German spa resorts such as Bad Reichenhall. The wooded mountain surroundings make it a popular base for summer hiking, with several trails leading towards the summit of Stóg Izerski, while winter draws skiers to nearby alpine and cross-country routes served by ski lifts and family-friendly slopes. The spa promenade (deptak), lined with buildings typical of the region's architecture, is home to cafés, shops and wellness centres. The town's proximity to the Czech Republic also makes cross-border day trips easy to arrange. Świeradów-Zdrój remains primarily a destination for rest and treatment, valued for its mid-mountain climate and well-preserved natural setting.
