Grunwald

Grunwald is a small village in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in northern Poland, internationally known as the site of the Battle of Grunwald, fought on 15 July 1410 between the Teutonic Knights and the combined forces of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. This significant historical site is home to the Grunwald Battlefield Museum, which explores the history of the decisive battle through exhibitions, weaponry displays and multimedia presentations. Each year, usually around mid-July, a large-scale historical re-enactment brings together enthusiasts in medieval armour from across Europe, drawing visitors to the very fields where the battle took place. The surrounding landscape, made up of farmland and woodland typical of the Masurian countryside, provides a peaceful setting ideal for walking and exploring local heritage. The wider Warmia-Masuria region, renowned for its many lakes, is also popular for nature-based tourism and outdoor pursuits. Grunwald remains primarily a destination for those interested in medieval history and commemorative re-enactments, offering a quiet, rural setting steeped in historical significance.
