Tanvald

Tanvald is a small town in North Bohemia, in the Liberec region, set at the foot of the Jizera Mountains (Jizerské hory) at the confluence of the Desná and Kamenice rivers. Its history is closely tied to the textile and glass industries, a heritage still visible in some of the older buildings in the town centre. The town serves as a convenient starting point for hiking and mountain biking in summer, as well as cross-country and alpine skiing in winter, thanks to its proximity to the Bedřichov and Severák resorts. The rack railway linking Tanvald to Kořenov, one of the few of its kind in the Czech Republic, runs through classic mountain scenery. Nearby trails also lead up to the summit of Tanvaldský Špičák, home to a lookout tower. The climate is moderately continental, with cool, snowy winters ideal for winter sports and mild summers well suited to outdoor pursuits. Tanvald remains a practical base for exploring the natural landscapes of the Jizera Mountains, with their forests, rivers and traditional mountain villages.
