Cherasco

Cherasco is a town in Piedmont, in the province of Cuneo, perched on a promontory overlooking the confluence of the Tanaro and Stura di Demonte rivers. Its historic centre, encircled by medieval walls, retains a distinctive layout with arcaded streets such as Via Vittorio Emanuele, alongside several Baroque buildings including Palazzo Salmatoris and the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Popolo. The town holds a notable place in Italian diplomatic history, having hosted the signing of significant treaties in the 17th and 18th centuries. Cherasco is well known for snail farming and preparation, a long-standing tradition that has also given rise to local specialities such as the famous chocolates known as baci di Cherasco. The former Jewish quarter, with its synagogue, reflects the town's multicultural past. The surrounding countryside, typical of the Piedmontese hills, is ideal for walks through vineyards and orchards, and the area makes a convenient base for exploring the nearby Langhe region. The mild continental climate brings warm summers and cool winters, making spring and autumn particularly pleasant times to visit.
