Banyalbufar

Banyalbufar is a village on the north-west coast of Majorca, in the Balearic Islands, set within the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, a cultural landscape listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The village is notable for its dry-stone agricultural terraces, built into the mountainside over several centuries to grow grapevines and ramellet tomatoes, a local variety traditionally dried and stored for year-round use. Vine cultivation, particularly of malvasía grapes, has been recorded here since medieval times. The terrain features steep cliffs dropping into the Mediterranean Sea, meaning there are few sandy beaches but several coves reachable on foot, including one right by the village. The winding Ma-10 road running through the area is popular for its coastal viewpoints. The mountainous surroundings make Banyalbufar a good base for walking, with paths linking it to neighbouring villages such as Estellencs and Valldemossa. With a Mediterranean climate of hot, dry summers and mild winters, the village suits those seeking rural, nature-based tourism away from Majorca's busier coastal resorts.
