Camaiore

Camaiore is a town in Tuscany, in the province of Lucca, within the Versilia area, set between the Apuan Alps and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Its medieval historic centre retains a compact layout around the Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta, with narrow streets lined by shops and cafés. A few kilometres away, the coastal district of Lido di Camaiore offers a seafront with fine sandy beaches and traditional bathing establishments typical of the Versilia coast, close to better-known resorts such as Forte dei Marmi and Pietrasanta. The hilly hinterland is covered with olive groves and vineyards producing well-regarded local olive oil and wine. Inland, the Apuan Alps provide opportunities for hiking and offer a striking contrast to the flat coastal strip. The Mediterranean climate, with warm, dry summers and mild winters, makes the area particularly suited to seaside holidays during the summer months. Camaiore therefore serves as a convenient base for exploring both the Tuscan coastline and the surrounding mountains, while offering a quieter atmosphere than some of the neighbouring, more touristic towns.
