Pescia

Pescia is a small town in Tuscany, in the province of Pistoia, historically known as a major centre for Italian horticulture and flower growing, home to one of the country's largest flower markets. The town is also noted for asparagus cultivation, a local produce celebrated at food-related events. Its historic centre retains a medieval character, with narrow lanes, the Duomo dedicated to Maria Santissima Assunta, and the Palazzo Pretorio, both reflecting its past as an independent commune. The River Pescia runs through the town, dividing the old quarter from the newer district. Pescia lies close to Collodi, the village linked to the author of Pinocchio, and not far from Montecatini Terme, known for its spa baths, as well as Lucca and Florence, both easily reached for day trips. The surrounding hilly, cultivated countryside is well suited to walks through the classic Tuscan landscape. The area enjoys a temperate Mediterranean climate, with warm summers and mild winters, making it a pleasant destination for much of the year.
