Sopot

Sopot is a Polish seaside resort on the Baltic coast, situated between Gdańsk and Gdynia within the urban area known as the Tricity. The town is best known for its wooden pier, one of the longest in Europe, which stretches out into the Bay of Gdańsk and serves as its main landmark. The sandy beach flanking the pier draws visitors throughout the summer season. The town centre is built around the pedestrianised Bohaterów Monte Cassino street, locally nicknamed Monciak, lined with cafés, restaurants and shops, and home to the Crooked House (Krzywy Domek), a distinctively shaped building that has become a local symbol. Sopot also retains architectural heritage from the early twentieth century, with Art Nouveau villas and hotels reflecting its history as a spa town under both German and Polish administration. The town hosts a well-regarded summer music festival. The climate is temperate oceanic, with mild summers suited to seaside holidays and cool winters. Sopot makes a convenient base for exploring nearby Gdańsk and Gdynia, both easily reached by train.
