Zell am See

Zell am See is a small Austrian town in the state of Salzburg, set on the shores of Lake Zell (Zeller See) and surrounded by the Alpine peaks of the Pinzgau region. Its historic centre, with narrow lanes and colourful façades, features the Stadtpfarrkirche parish church and the Vogtturm tower, both remnants of its mediaeval past. The town is best known as a mountain resort offering activities all year round: Schmittenhöhe mountain, reached by cable car, provides ski slopes in winter and panoramic walking trails in summer. Nearby, the town of Kaprun and the Kitzsteinhorn glacier extend the skiing season for much of the year. The lake itself is a hub for summer pursuits, with swimming, sailing and a cycle path circling the water. The wider Pinzgau district also serves as a convenient base for reaching the Grossglockner High Alpine Road.
