Balatonfured/Balatonakali

Balatonfüred and Balatonakali lie on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, in Veszprém County, Hungary. Balatonfüred has been a well-known spa town since the 19th century, valued for its mineral springs and climate said to benefit heart conditions, which led to the establishment of a historic cardiology hospital. The Tagore Promenade, lined with plane trees planted by notable visitors, runs along the marina and remains a popular lakeside walking route. The town also forms part of the Balatonfüred-Csopak wine region, celebrated for its white wines, particularly Olaszrizling. Nearby Balatonakali is a smaller, quieter village with a modest harbour, vineyard-covered hills and open views across the lake. The wider area is well suited to water-based activities such as sailing, swimming and cycling along the paths that circle Lake Balaton. Visitors can also explore neighbouring wine villages and the gently rolling landscape typical of the lake's northern shore, dotted with vineyards, orchards and small family-run wineries.
