Siofok/Zamardi

Siófok, often nicknamed the summer capital of Lake Balaton, sits on the southern shore of this vast lake, the largest in Central Europe. The town is known for its landscaped sandy beaches, shallow swimming areas suited to families, and a lively promenade lined with restaurants, bars and shops. The harbour and its iconic lighthouse mark the town centre, while nightlife—particularly buzzing during the summer season—draws a young crowd from across Europe. Nearby Zamárdi offers a quieter atmosphere while remaining close to Siófok's amenities, with its own beaches and a campsite known for hosting electronic music festivals. The area lends itself to plenty of water-based activities such as sailing, paddleboarding and pedalo hire, as well as cycling along the routes that circle the lake. The wine-growing region of Balaton-felvidék and the Somogy hills also make for worthwhile day trips. The mild continental climate makes May to September the most favourable period for visiting this part of Lake Balaton.
