Poreč/Kaštelir

Poreč/Kaštelir combines a historic coastal town with an inland Istrian village, roughly ten kilometres apart. Poreč, on Istria's west coast, is known for its old town of Roman and Venetian origins, dominated by the Euphrasian Basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its Byzantine mosaics. The seafront, cobbled lanes, marina and organised beaches draw visitors throughout the summer season. Kaštelir, further inland, sits within the rolling landscape typical of central Istria, characterised by vineyards, olive groves and still-active traditional farming. This contrast between a lively coastline and quiet countryside makes it possible to combine a seaside stay with excursions inland, including hilltop villages and routes dedicated to local wine and olive oil. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, suits outdoor pursuits such as cycling and walking, as well as sampling regional produce, including Istrian olive oil, which regularly receives international recognition for its quality.
